Itinerary
Day 1: Orth (Fehmarn)
On the first day, we meet at 6 pm at the ship, which is moored in the idyllic harbour of Orth auf Fehmarn. After everyone has moved into their bunks and the kites are stowed away, we cook a delicious dinner together and sit down for a first briefing. Together we look at the weather forecast for the next few days and decide on the exact itinerary for the coming days based on wind strength, wind direction and your personal kite levels and area preferences. This is followed by the safety briefing.
The intended course of the trip is described below.
Day 2: Orth (Fehmarn) – Bagenkop (25nm)
The next morning starts early so that we can get a lot out of the day. After breakfast, it's time to cast off.
We quickly left the harbour and set sail. In only 5 hours we reach the harbour of Bagenkop. Here we find our first kite spot. Only 5 minutes walk from the catamaran there is a large beach where we can directly launch the kites.
In the evening, we explore the small town together and have dinner in one of the delicious restaurants.
Day 3: Bagenkop – Skaro By (20 nm)
Today we continue into the heart of the Danish South Sea. In the area almost completely enclosed by land, we find shallow water and many small islands. Perfect for sailing, kiting and anchoring. After a total of about 4 hours of sailing, we reach the first anchorage. Protected by a long sandbank, the catamaran lies very quietly at anchor. With the dinghy we go ashore together with the kite luggage, so that everyone can set up and start quite relaxed. After everyone has had a good time on the water, we cook together on board.
Day 4: Skaro By - Lyo By (15 nm)
Because this spot is so incredibly beautiful, we take the opportunity to go kiting again in the morning. Around noon we will sail on to the next spot (15 nm, approx. 3 h). Here we will anchor again. Depending on the weather conditions, we can either launch the kites directly from the boat or from the beach again. We will end the evening with a cosy dinner on board, while the experiences of the day are lively discussed.
Day 5: Lyo By – Avernako (5 nm) – Marstal (15 nm)
The day starts with a short sailing trip. After only one hour, we reach the next spot. Here we spend a few hours kiting and having lunch before continuing to Marstal in the afternoon (approx. 3h). In the Danish village we spend the evening with dinner in the restaurant ashore.
Day 6: Marstal - Orth (Fehmarn) (30 nm)
Now the last day is already over. For the time being, the motto is: Sailing! After breakfast, the sails are set and the course is set for Fehmarn. If the weather conditions are good, we will reach Orth in the early afternoon. That means there is still enough time for one last kite session on Fehmarn. Luckily, the kitespot is only a 5-minute walk from our mooring!
We end the last evening together in a nice restaurant in Orth.
Day 7: Orth (Fehmarn)
After an early breakfast on board, it's time to say goodbye. A Kite & Sail week can fly by so quickly. Around 9 a.m. everyone leaves the ship.
Everyday life at Kite & Sail
You can't quite imagine a holiday on board a catamaran yet? Ok, then let's try to describe a typical daily routine. You wake up in the morning in your spacious double cabin with private bathroom. After getting up, you will be greeted by your fellow sailors in the large and bright saloon. The early risers have already made the first coffee and the breakfast preparations start. True to the motto "many hands, quick finish", everyone lends a hand with the meal preparations and washing up. The crew has already done the rough meal planning in advance. After everyone is fortified and the ship is ready to sail, the lines are cast off and the sails are set. During the sailing time you can enjoy the different chill areas of the catamaran. After 3-4 hours under sail, the next spot is usually reached. Once there, the dinghy is lowered into the water and kites and kiters are brought ashore by the skipper. During the kite session, the kite instructor on shore will help you with launching and landing and will also come to your aid with the dinghy if you have any problems on the water or still need tips. It's hard to believe that the day has flown by so quickly. We cook and clean up together again, before the cosy evening on board ends in a nice round with like-minded kiters.
